Lathe: Three Leg Stool

Each attendee will make a 17" tall three leg hardwood stool based upon the Windsor chair.

Required Skill Level: Beginner (some spindle turning experience or completion of basic spindle class).

Skills that will be taught:

  • Turning a leg (spindle) from a pattern
  • Face plate turning
  • Basic layout using geometry
  • Drilling angled holes in spindles
  • Basic finishing

All tools and materials will be provided for the class; however, if you would like to bring your own tools, you may (we will be using a spindle gouge and parting tool -- if you are using carbide insert tools, a straight insert and round insert will be required). Use of a detail tool is optional.

This is an 8-hour class with a lunch break (please bring your own lunch).

Final assembly and finishing will be done afterwards, on your own.

Class is open to ages 16 and up, though minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. The adult must purchase an additional ticket to attend the class.

Guests are asked to be on time. If the safety briefing is missed, the guest will not be able to join the class and no refunds will be given.

Any jewelry on the hands and wrist must be removed and that no loose clothing is worn. Closed-toed shoes are required. Safety goggles will be provided. If you wear prescription glasses, you may want to bring your own eye protection. Hearing protection is optional, bring your own if desired.
